Through TO’s course in the Event Management program, RPL 430, 4 colleagues and I were put to the test to raise money for charity with a $0 starting budget. We chose the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Our corn maze, fall-themed event raised $452 for MDA! Shout out to St. John's in Mt. Pleasant for donating event space to a charitable cause!
Additional course work included raising money and hosting the Gus Macker Basketball Festival (Mt. Pleasant, MI). This is where I implemented the Live Like Max Foundation into business. My beloved friend, Max Pardington, had a passion for basketball. I felt like I was doing it all for him. Thank you to the Pardington family for your sponsorship. Also thank you to Kyle for being my volunteer for the weekend on the court. I couldn’t have passed the course without a sponsorship or volunteer!

In JRN 556 Program Board Co-Leader of the PR Team, Lauren, and I were challenged to create a PR campaign. We brainstormed who our client was going to be and concluded with our own charity program: K.I.D.S. This stood for: Kids In Detroit Sports. This make-believe charity event would provide Detroit children with the opportunity to play sports for free. Lauren worked on writing the PR material while I did the designing of the campaign through InDesign.

In this capstone class we also had to represent a client through a PR internship. I represented United Way of Clare and Gladwin Counties. I created press releases, fact sheets, registrations for their 5k charity event, etc.

Another one of my RPL professor’s, TO’s, courses put us into event planning teams of 4 students. Our small group was in charge of planning a mock convention for The United Association of Playground Supervisors. Our one hour presentation show cased event details such as the trade booth set up, guest speakers, dining arrangement, excursions, and more. Again I took charge of the graphic designing of our program book.
My semester long field internship concluded with a company that is now known as George P. Johnson. Formally pulse220 Events and Live Marketing Agency. There I traveled the midwest for Meijer Back to College Events/ Fairs & Festivals and traveled to Michigan’s Henry Ford Hospitals for their 50th Anniversary Celebrations. Other clients I worked with included Syntel, Gatorade, and Quicken Loans. I would do it all over again!

In college I not only was waitressing part time, taking internships, and completing college coursework, I also was apart of organizations such as Delta Zeta (DZ), Program Board (PB), Meeting Professionals Internationally (MPI), Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), and Grand Central Magazine (GCMag).
My position as the Director of Marketing on Central Michigan University’s Program Board - Executive Board was the biggest responsibility I had my senior year of college. I was in charge of the advertising for 25+
events hosted on CMU’s campus. I sometimes hosted pre-promotional booths leading up to the main events with event detailed handouts, music, and prizes. I was in charge of working with MGX to design posters for each event. I was one of the leaders for Program Board’s Public Relations Team where I distributed the posters to members to get placed around campus. I also collaborated with local radio stations and businesses in efforts to gain event attendees. There was a lot of brainstorming involved. Implementation of giveaways through our social media. The reward of it all was getting to be so heavily involved on campus. I not only worked behind the scenes on the marketing aspects for CMU PB’s Events, but I also got to help host the events - which means I got to meet famous celebrities, philanthropists and speakers!
